Former 2 Live Crew member Uncle Luke gets permission from the state to coach football in Florida.

And you thought your neighbor’s dad who drove a Suburban was cool.
Today in Florida news, former 2 Live Crew member Luther Campbell recieved permission from the state to serve as the defensive coordinator at Miami Northwestern High School. This is news today because it’s been a slow news day! Campbell already had a temporary permit from the state, however today he will now be known for as long as he abides by the rules as Coach Luke.
The “rules” however are much different then the ones your creepy friend’s dad gets to coach an AYSO team. He must complete ethics classes, notify the state if he gets involved in the adult entertainment industry, and provide proof that he has made child support payments.
So that is that. If he does not promote porn or open a strip club and he pays his child support, he can coach young adults in America’s most ethical game: football. Let’s hope his tenure at the school is much more successful then his run for mayor of Miami.

2Pac’s Eerie Interview About His First Shooting: “You Missed, Motherf*cker!”

“You can do that lil’ set me up in the studio shit in New York, but in California nigga, that’s where the G’s ride.”

The Internet can take a person to the strangest and most ironic corners if they actually allow it. So imagine my enjoyment, shock and surprise upon landing on this vintage Uncle Luke and Tupac interview. While the clip features Pac revealing the thought process behind Euthanasia – the original title for what would become All Eyez On Me – and the expected shots at Faith Evans, The Notorious B.I.G. and Bad Boy, the painful and haunting moments resonate when Afeni’s iconic offspring speaks on his Quad Studios shooting in 1994 and bulletproof vest. Loaded off Hennessy and Coke, Tupac (alongside the late Johnny J) infamously boasts while showing off his protective gear, “I got shot five times and ain’t nare bullet go in my chest. These shits ain’t no good.”

Following Luke’s assertion he had no need for bulletproof vests, Shakur’s prophetic answer of him not wanting “niggas to switch up on me” is a vexatious reminder of what would fall in his lap not even a year later. Particularly during the second half of his career, this was the Tupac the media came to know and antagonize, which, in all honesty, was apart of his Gemini personality; the cocky, ignorant, loud-mouthed loose cannon who lived life in the fast lane. Even today, nearly 16 years to the month of his murder, Pac’s ability gravitate between compassionate, to venomous and back to compassionate again remains his calling card. Pac’s time with Luke here was just as much who he was as, say, “I Ain’t Mad At Cha.”

Hindsight is 20/20, but the question of what if Pac decided to wear that same vest the night of September 7, 1996, remains an indelible black cloud on the genre and generation he helped revolutionize.

Uncle Luke Coaches the Heat to NBA Title and Other Rappers' Celebratory Tweets.

If you're truly reppin' the 305, you know the Miami Heat scorched it last night, stomping the OKC Thunder and seizing the title of 2012 NBA Champions.

For the rest of the weekend, this whole city is going into crazed, half-conscious party mode. And since it's Miami, you know that means a lot of rappers are going to be in the club, getting their bottle and pussy poppin' on.

In fact, some of our local favorites have already been shouting about it on Twitter. So let's see how some of these urban wordsmiths spell "victory."

The King of Cash Money was getting the night off right with a big celebration at Bamboo, drinking his own liquor.

Uncle Luke May Have Been Disinvited From ESPN First Take Because He Called Skip Bayless A Race-Baiting Huckster.

On ESPN’s First Take a week* ago, Bristol Race Relations Guru Skip Bayless extended an invitation to former 2 Live Crew rapper/official South Beach strip club welcoming committee/part-time Miami New Times columnist Luther Campbell to debate him on his stupid show.
*Or months? Years? Eons? I don’t know. I don’t watch First Take, because it’s stupid (see above), and when I had to because of work time seemed to move slower than usual.
Alas, the invitation has since been recanted. That’s according to Uncle Luke, who today told the New Times that he was informed, by way of his publicist, that First Take’s talent booker had taken back the invite.
“My New Times piece got me on the banned list,” Campbell says. “Skip only wants token people to go on the air with him.”
The New Times piece in question is a February 28th ditty in which Luke calls Skip the following, with varying degrees of accuracy.
- The “Rush Limbaugh of sports journalism.” (Fair.)

- The architect of “a cottage industry playing the role of the angry white guy.” (Very fair.)

- A “master of manipulating issues about race and ethnicity in professional athletics to make himself millions of dollars.” (The fairest.)

- A journalist who made his way “attacking African-American players as a young cub reporter.” (Yeah, but it’s important to point out that he’s also famous for questioning the sexual orientation of a white quarterback.)

- A man who “most African-American journalists and sports celebrities don’t like.” (Well, we haven’t conducted any polls recently, but if this piece was to be believed he’s well-liked by his co-hosts, the majority of whom are black. We’re not sure about black athletes — they seem to be split between dislike and indifference. White punters, though, want him to fall onto a burning pile of AIDS needles.)

- A man who “Black columnist Stephen A. Smith recently flipped” off on air. (That wasn’t a real flip-off, Uncle Luke.)

- A man who “Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs called” a douchebag. (This happened.)

- A man who Charles Barkley anointed “biggest jackass in the history of journalism.” (This happened, too.)

- A man whose race-baiting hucksterism is “pulling in viewers.” (Questionable.)

In any event, we’ve contacted ESPN PR and asked if Uncle Luke’s invite was indeed rescinded because he called Skip Bayless a “Modern Day Minstrel.” When we hear back, we’ll let you know.

Uncle Luke struggles to coach high school football in Florida.

According to the  Florida Department of Education, former  2 Live Crew member Luther Campbell better known as  Uncle Luke “lacks the required good moral character” to coach students. Campbell is known for his raunchy rap albums of the 80s and 90s, is currently the defensive coordinator for Miami Northwestern high school’s football team. After three seasons of coaching with a temporary certificate, Campbell needs a permanent one  to continue coaching in Miami-Dade County after the  2012-2013 school year.
An administrative judge gave Campbell the go ahead for the certification, but the Florida Department of Education repealed  the judge’s recommendation after  looking into Campbell’s past rap exploits.   The  final decision rests with the Florida’s Education Practices Commission. The organization is expected to make a final ruling sometime this summer. Sports Illustrated has the full story:
Miami Northwestern High’s defensive coordinator stood before his players last month with a marker in his hand and a board full of plays at his back. “Any time in this game we’re going to check goal line, I’m going to go Eagle,” he yelled, referring to a blitz call. “We’re going to hit the quarterback all night.” The players nodded. Some smiled. Some scowled.
His pregame chalk talk concluded, the coordinator bounded over to the offense. He told those players to score so often that the host, Vero Beach High, would be forced to use a running clock in the second half. As he returned to the defensive side of the locker room, the coordinator noticed a young defensive tackle with his jersey hanging down to his hips. “Shirts in,” he yelled, staring at the sophomore playing his first spring game with the varsity. Then the coordinator smirked. “We kick asses,” he said, “with class.
The coordinator knows more about moving posteriors than he does about kicking them.

Miami High School Says Uncle Luke Lacks Good Moral Character!

After making hits like “Banned in the U.S.A.,”Uncle Luke is being banned from the assistant coach position at a Miami high school.
Luke Campbell has been helping out Miami Northwestern High School’s football team for the last three seasons as a defensive coordinator. He is looking to be promoted to the assistant coach position and keeps being denied by the school board. Despite an administrative judge recommending Luke for the assistant coach slot, the school board balked at the notion because they don’t believe Luke is good for the children to be around.

French Montana – Pop That feat. Rick Ross, Drake, Lil Wayne, and Uncle Luke.

It’s tracks like this that give me a great glimpse into what should be great summer for music. French Montana finally releases the long awaited track “Pop That” which features Rick Ross, Drake, and Lil Wayne and Uncle Luke. The song will definitely be a banger for the summer thanks to the the back up help that French Montana got from MMG and YMCMB.

You can expect to catch this song on French Montana’s debut album “Excuse My French” coming out on July 17th.

Matti Bower Needs To Do More For African-American Tourists.

Uncle Luke, the man whose booty-shaking madness once made the U.S. Supreme Court stand up for free speech, gets as nasty as he wants to be for Miami New Times. This week, Luke says African-Americans may find a new vacation spot unless attitudes change on Miami Beach.

Note to African-American tourists who showed up in Miami for Memorial Day weekend: Next year, book your four-day vacation in Myrtle Beach, Nassau, or Cancun, where your tourism dollars will be appreciated. Miami Beach Mayor Matti Bower and the city commissioners have certainly made it clear that they don't you back. In response to last year's police shooting of an unarmed man and several innocent bystanders, the politicians turned Miami Beach into a three-day police state.

Of course, the enormous police presence was just a show to make the residents feel safer. But it created even more racial tension in a city with a history of excluding people of color.

Miami Beach doesn't roll out the red carpet for African-American visitors as it does for those who attend the boat show, Art Basel, and the South Beach Wine & Food Festival. Instead, black people are greeted by thousands of cops, paddy wagons, police watchtowers, DUI checkpoints, cameras scanning their license plates, and a healthy dose of racial profiling.

It's no wonder some African-Americans stayed away from Miami Beach this time around. The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau projected Miami Beach hotels were only 76, 77, and 72 percent full Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, compared with 82, 90, and 85 percent during the same three-day period last year.

Earlier this year, I met with Bower and told her the city needed to take ownership of Memorial Day weekend with an organized event -- maybe something like the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, which offers a mix of hip-hop, R&B, and jazz. She ignored my advice and locked down the city.

Now I understand that residents leave town and some businesses don't make money when the crowds descend on the city for Memorial Day, but the city is pitting people against each other by creating all this tension. I certainly don't want residents to feel they have to leave their homes. I want us to work together to put on an event that we all can be proud of.

It's time for Bower to bring blacks and Miami Beach residents together with a host committee that will work on making Memorial Day weekend special for everybody.

Judge Wants Uncle Luke Certified to Coach Football/

Luther Campbell, also known as Uncle Luke, didn’t have a good bid during his political run last year.
A Florida state administrative judge suggested he coach football instead, especially since he’s been in the field for some years.
The recommendation came on Tuesday after the state  refused to certify the 51 year old who has been an assistant coach with local approval in Miami.
Education officials didn’t want to see the man doing what he loves, citing his degrading and inappropriate rap lyrics, raunchy stage performances with naked women, and an arrest record as reason to keep him from being certified.
However, Judge Robert Meale shared with the court that he had coached inner city youth and high school football without incident for years.
Campbell can take his case to an appellate court if Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson rejects Meale’s recommendation, say reports.

Q&A: David Banner Talks Sex, Drugs And Video Games In Hip-Hop.

Sex! Drugs! Video games! Nope, that isn't the hedonist's new trifecta—it's the title of Mississippi rapper David Banner's new free album, which you can cop now. The project in question might not go all-out on the salacious tip; Banner says, "The title is used to draw people in to think that it's about sex, drugs and video games, but it's about why people shouldn't regurgitate those things and if life was a video game who would control it?" Which is a virtuous stance, but one that didn't stop us from pestering Banner to take a quick trip through his own hip-hop-related sex, drug and video game annals.
Can you remember the first time you heard a sex rap?
I've been listening to hip-hop for so long—I started listening to hip-hop when I was six years old—so I'm not quite sure if this is the right answer, but I'd say it would probably be Uncle Luke and the 2 Live Crew and their first album [2 Live Crew Is What We Are]. The whole of that first album, ha ha, that whole album you can pick any song off there it don't matter 'cause it's about sex!
What was your first impression of the 2 Live Crew when you heard the album?
I hope my moms don't hear me listening to this! I was just really really concerned about my mom and what she'd think if she heard me listening to that. To this day, I still do. As vocal as I can be at at times when I make songs, I still think about what would my mom think about this. I mean, she didn't love me listening to the 2 Live Crew, but I didn't get in trouble.
When you heard Luke's sex raps, did you find them humorous?
I would say there was humor but some of them were just sounding smooth to me. I mean, my parents just laid the foundation for everything to be seen as entertainment—if kids are influenced by music or television it's because of a lack of discipline or education at home. So I definitely listened to them but took them for what they were.
If you had to compile a sex playlist yourself, what would be on it?
You can pick any of the songs off of Keith Sweat's first album! That would do it!
What would a Keith Sweat and David Banner collaboration sound like today?
It would be amazing—lots of 808s! I'd keep his music high-tempo and go in on the 808s!

Justin Bieber Is on the Edge of Crazy.

Uncle Luke, the man whose booty-shaking madness once made the U.S. Supreme Courtstand up for free speech, gets as nasty as he wants to be for Miami New Times. This week, Luke warns that Justin Bieber might be on a dark path similar to the one followed by other young pop stars such as Lindsay Lohan.

On May 5, I invited some friends to my house to watch the Miguel Cotto-Floyd Mayweatherfight. We were all surprised when the baddest of all bad-boy black dudes, Floyd Mayweather, walked into the ring with Justin Bieber, the world's most beloved innocent white teenager. Bieber must have gone rogue, because no record executive would have allowed the Canadian crooner to be seen next to one of the most hated boxers in history. That kid just seemed so out of place. He doesn't even know how to put on a mean face.

Maybe Bieber, like Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears, is getting tired of being a squeaky-clean pop star. A lot of these universally loved mainstream artists grow weary of their public vanilla personalities. They simply don't want to be nice and cute anymore. They want to be hard-core. Look at Whitney Houston. When she sang the National Anthem before Super Bowl XXV in 1991, she became America's sweetheart. But it was all downhill from there. She married bad-boy R&B singer Bobby Brown and began doing drugs and abusing alcohol.
MC Hammer is another example. He got tired of being a pop rapper known for his dancing skills, so he made a thug record. No one bought it, and people were like, "What the fuck are you doing?"
Last week, Bieber told Us Weekly he was relieved to have graduated from high school. "At school, usually you have to do a lot of writing and reading," he said. "I'm not really into that stuff. I like to be out there." So Bieber's handlers need to get him under control soon, or he could get into some serious trouble.
If they see Justin doing any of the following, they'll know he has lost his mind:
• He gets a teardrop tattoo on his face and wears his pants saggy like Lil Wayne's.
• He beats up his girlfriend à la Chris Brown, who was a squeaky-clean pop star before he punched Rihanna.
• He tries to date Miami rapper Trina.
• He rides around South Beach in a Bugatti during Memorial Day weekend while wearing a wifebeater and a diamond pendant chain.
• He hangs out with Mayweather at King of Diamonds and makes it rain on the strippers.
If you see Bieber doing any of those things, you know he's in need of Dr. Phil.
